The John Deere Loader is recommended for kids 2 to 6 years old.

Maximum weight capacity: 65 lbs

Features:

  • Adjustable seat to accommodate your growing child (This makes sure your child won’t outgrow it quickly!)
  • Heavy duty bicycle-style chain (enclosed for the kids’ safety!)
  • Sturdy front loader that scoops, lifts, and dumps from the driver’s seat (so your child can easily see his load)
  • Really large, heavy-duty tires (makes it easy to ride on uneven surfaces such as grass and dirt)
  • has an optional attachable trailer (purchased separately)

Note: This toy is chain-driven (meaning, your child have to pedal it to move). If you want something that looks similar to the John Deere Loader but one that is battery-powered, then the Peg Perego Utility tractor is what you need.

How to assemble Peg Perego John Deere Loader?

The instruction manual that comes with the loader isn’t very helpful. It’s filled with pictures with some written assembly instructions which most people found to be inadequate. Certain portions of the assembly can be really difficult, particularly the steering wheel although some people found a way round to it.

Allow enough time to assemble it – at least2 hours. Be patient. Some managed to put it together in 45 mins whilst others took over 2 hours to have it done.

Helpful hints for assembly:

Make sure to have the box in front of you for a picture reference. Read through all the steps and directions BEFORE starting to have a general feel of what you’re about to assemble. This is important to know what step takes what size of screw since the directions don’t specify. You’ll be needing a lot of common sense in putting the John Deere loader together.

It is strongly advised to put on the decals BEFORE assembly. It is also a good idea to put the stickers on before assembling the toy.

Tips and Tricks in attaching the steering wheel:

Many people find it difficult to attach the steering wheel to the column. If you encounter this problem, make sure you attach the dashboard decal first BEFORE putting on the steering wheel. On the underside of the loader, there’s a small hole where you can insert your finger on the other end of the steering column and hold it while lowering the steering wheel in. You can also grease the column with a bit of oil to make it easier for the wheel to slide on.

Also, it can be difficult to attach the bucket to the tractor. If you’re having problems, get someone else to help you compact the tractor enough to be able to put the retainer on the end of the rod. There is a special tool included with the tractor that is designed for putting the retainers on, so make sure you utilize this and save yourself some trouble.

Those are the problem areas of the assembly process. Despite the cumbersome task of putting it all together, be rest assured that the end result is worth it. In the end, you’ll get a high-quality toy that will keep your child entertained for years to come.

What Users are saying about the John Deere Loader:

“This tractor would get 5 out of 5 stars were it not for the most horrendously written instructions. I bought this as a Christmas gift for our son who’s thoroughly enjoying it now, however, little did I know that this tractor would take me almost two hours to assemble on Christmas Eve thanks to instructions that have obvious flaws and missing critical details.

Overall, great toy that should last for years, but buyer beware if you’re expecting a quick assembly job. Several of the other reviews written here provide valuable ‘tips’ and ‘tricks’ to get around the instruction problems. Using those tips should make assembly a less painful process.”
